acad2008/ osnap/ From? Temp Track Point?

I apologies for this new thread, I don't know if this even qualifies as one. You see I have this little problem that is driving me crazy and I really needs some help on this subject.
I do not know how to use the From and Temporary Tracking Point that is added to my osnap list along with the end, mid, center.... My help page doesn't show that it even exists. Can someone help me before I go crazy?

osnap From Is A Very Useful Tool. If Youhave A Line And Wish To Draw A Perpendicular Line 8' From The Starting Point. Hit Line,then Osnap From And Enter 8'. Your Starting Point Will Be Moved 8' From The Start Point.
