Stop chamfer

Hi there!
I'm new to CAD . I just can't figure out how to do a stop chamfer . I can chamfer the whole lenght of a edge but not just a small section .
Any one ?

Are we talking about on a solid? The only way I can see is to create another solid the size/length of the proposed chamfer, locate it in the correct place and subtract it from the original solid. Of course I guess some fancy slicing and the combining left over pices would work also.
