Not sure...but if you ultimate objective is to analyze that weld (for stresses or fatigue life), there are new methods that do not require the seam weld material to actually exist in the geometry nor even in the FE mesh that is built to that geometry. It's a useful breakthrough (if that's your end goal) because modeling welds (and meshing them in particular) is a big pain.
