Default Mirror part without deriving

I want to know whether it is possible to mirror a part without it being a derivative of the original, as I would like to be able to edit some of the features of the mirrored part.

Using Inventor 2008, open the part file. Select the mirror command. In the dialog box, select the "Mirror entire solid" button (top left in dialog box) then select the mirror plane.

Use "Mirror Feature" command and check "remove original." You can then edit the features in the same part file.
