activate tool bars

I have a 30 day trial of solidworks 2008. I have inserted quite a few tool bars but all except one are greyed out and i cant use any of the tools on them.On the features tool bar i want to use the extuded,boss,base comand. When i do place the curser over it,it does tell me what it is but nothing happens when i double click on it.This is the first time i have tried to use solidworks but i have used autocad before. They might be greyed out because you are in sketch mode. Trying exiting sketch mode and then the features toolbar buttons will be selectable. If you are in sketch mode you can only really extrude/cut extrude from this mode.
