Customizing document settings

I have a template with all of the document settings like i want them. But when I open an existing document the settings are set by the original author of course. Is there a way to import my document settings?

Check in the system tools under file locations to make sure you are pointed at the location where you put your template. (make sure to save the template again when this is correct)
