Problem with "Derived Sketch"

I have a 3D sketch on a plane and want to project it onto a neighboring parallel plane. I opened the sketch in 2D as per the instructions and selected the sketch, then held down the control key and selected the plane that is to receive the sketch, then click on INSERT and "derived sketch" is grayed out !
How do you get it to work ?

I solved my delima, I was inserting a planes in a new sketch and should have inserted "reference planes". I am learning SW on my own so I was confused about inserting planes, live and learn.
