When I try to render I am getting hard edges, can anyonesuggest a way to soften shadow edges in renderings?

Hi,
Try Scene dialog and the Lighting tab. It will allow you to soften and control the quality of the shadows.
Regards.

You can go to PhotoWorks options, advanced tab, and for contour rendering click: Render model only (no contours).
Hope this is what you are looking for.

Also increase the quality of your anti-aliasing in photoworks options.
