Default Editable patchs?

Are editable patches highly used in modeling? I started using them and I have lot of problems. I want to know if it is worth using them.

Do you mean Editable Patch, or spline? Well, both will be a patch base type modeling. I was pretty good in earlier max version, version 3 for my knowledge. But it does have a lot of issue with smoothing, and take a lot of time to tweak. When Editable Poly came out, a lot of people convert to poly modeling, it is faster and have a lot better tool. There would be time that I would use it to start off a model, but 98% of them time I use poly. I guess it is really depends on your preference.
