convert an assembly to a previous version

Hi

Can anyone help?
I need to convert some parts from R17 to R16....no problem...I use the batch convert utility. However, if I need to convert an assembly, it does not recognize this as a catia file, how is this done?
Don't tell me I have to convert all the parts, then assemble them again?
