Sharing Dimensions, Equations across Mates - Simulation Optimization

Is there a way to share dimensions across mates in a Solid Works Assembly?

We're designing a device with an inner and outer piece and we want to run simulations to optimize some of our design parameters, such as thickness. Problem is, we haven't figured out how to do it, and Google is proving fruitless.
I know we can specify dimensions and equations in the assembly, but is there a way to share these equations across existing parts?
