How to cut a Part from another

Aquila

I am trying to use the outer surface of an existing part, to cut away from a new part. I think there should be some thing like cut/join command. Does Inventor have this capability? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the few options that you may try out:

1) Create an assembly of the 2 parts and derive this assembly into a part and
use booleans.

2) Promote the surface from another part into your existing part (must be done in-context of an assembly) and use it to split/replace face/extrude-to. This option is not parametric.

3)Derive in the surface def of the part -kinda the same as promoting except
you can't select surfaces- and split off the surface from the part.

Cheers!
