joining polysurfaces and getting torus to align to polysurface

Hey

To start from the begining I made a ellipsoid, dragged it out to the shape I needed. Then I cut it in half, mirrored it to be the same from both sides and then joined it again. My problem is now that I still got the bold line from where I cut the shape in half, and depending on what I want to do, it's still sometimes only gives my the opportunity to choose the one half or the other. How can I remove the bold line and make the shape as one surface?

Next I made this torus, cut it in half and now I need to align it to the above-mentioned shape. But I can't find a tool for it - how do I do that?

Hope someone can help me.
