Recunstruction from topology optimization

John Doen

New member
Hi Guys,

I have a body and after topology optimization I try to construct the body like the results of the topology optimizer. I've tried to reconstruction the body using generative shape design, but it's really terrible to reconstruct the body with 90% similarity . In pictures you can finde where my problem is (yellow area) and the area where i stucked there..
Could some help me???

Why you must draw new 3d model ?
Use same model from optimization.
Basic idea is - user will construct only work space.
mybe yust try to correct some 3D details on final result.

Can you edit your STL structure on Top. Opt. model ?

Hello John,

It is hard to reproduce the organic shape with Generative Shape Design (too parametric)... I strongly recommend you to use CATIA Imagine & Shape. If you have the latest version of V5 you should have a feature called strip design, that will allows you to directly create the shape on top of the mesh. After that you can reuse the surface to create a closed profile and get a solid. I have an example of the result on this GrabCad link: https://grabcad.com/library/bracket-topology-optimization-6-1

I talk a bit about it from 15"50 on this video:

Otherwise, this one shows you a bit the process from 1"00

Good luck!

Thanks very much dude.. that was realy helpful. I tried to do that and show you the result

If you print this 3Dmodel with a rough surface your will potentially have fatigue problem, constraints generation that will lead to cracks in the part.
That is why you should rebuild the surface to obtain something smooth. in CATIA you also have a feature called automatic surface generation in Digitized Shape to Surface workbench (watch this if you want to know more: https://youtu.be/Qo6hzCDecfg).

Generative design.
Verry smooth result on first optimisation step, no need to correct anything.
Result: solid body !
My project from last month.
