Body parts

Newbie
Hi All, I'm new to 3D and I'm currently trying to design a 3D model of vehicle body parts and I need to convert the current "triangular wire frame" to a solid 3D shape, but find it difficult. I have Solid Edge ST5 and a friend have Autodesk Inventor. We see the shapes in 3D, but the moment we import the DXF files into CAM, we get a flat object, tool path generated perfectly, but in a flat surface. Is the 3D actually in "2D", reason why it displays in a flat model? I can send a body shape to anyone that can perhaps assist, to see what I'm actually doing wrong. My email as follows; [email protected]
Kind regards,
Hendrik
