Export undefined assembly

JonathanC

Newbie
Hello,

I am using Solidworks 2007

I am looking to create assemblies of parts for sculpture. The parts will overlap within the assembly to create a
pleasing complex shape.

I then wish to import the assembly into Rhino 4 to enable me to generate flat surfaces for laser cutting.

I have used this procedure successfully with single parts, however in a assembly the overlap of the parts is
ignored
in Rhino, the flat surfaces are not trimmed by the overlap of another part.

So the question is whether it is possible to create an assembly from overlapping solid extruded shapes, then when
the desired overlap is achieved, effectively trim the parts where they intersect another part. Or alternatively
create a surface from the 'skin' of the assembly.

Any help would be most welcome.

Thank you, Jonathan
