Library Feature Parts

Hi, does anybody know if/how a library feature can be setup to be used on any plane of a model?

I am setting up some library parts for some woodworking elements like plough grooves and dowel holes. My problem is they only seem to work correctly on the plane they are created on. For example,
I have a plough groove set into the edge of a part which is drawn on the default front plane. The plough groove is in the top edge, if I try place it on the top edge of a part drawn on the default right plane the groove will run across the edge left to right and not front to back. The attached pics should show you what I mean.

Thanks
