Variable Lengths for Multiple Iterations in One Assembly?

I hope I'm not asking the impossible! This seems like a sensible feature.

I've got a rivet that I need to install in two places in an assembly. As its length varies, I would like to dodge making a new file or new configuration for every necessary application of the rivet. I was hoping that leaving the height unconstrained in the sketch of the profile would allow me to mate the top and bottom, having the rivet auto-size itself... Alas, no.

The trickier part is that I need to have two rivets of the same part but different lengths in one assembly!

I really like to think that there's a clever way to do this. Can anyone help?
