Drawing dimensions defaulting to dual values

halzimers

New member
I want my drawings to show 3 digit english and 1 digit metric dimensions.
I have to turn on dual values for every dimension in my drawings.

Can catia use these settings as the defaults for all dimensions?

I want the values to be preset.

This can be done.

But you have to run CATIA as the Administrator, create a new drafting standard, and then customize the new standard based on your company's drawing standards. Dual dimensions and numerical precision included.

Until a new drafing standard is available, here are two tips to easily modify existing dimensions to change their appearance:

A: Modify all dimensions

After all the dimensions have been added to a drawing, you can change all of them in one step. Click in the white box in the lower-right corner of the CATIA window, and type t:dim* This will select all the dimensions on the drawing. Right-click on one of the highlighted dimensions and modify the Properties to turn on the dual mode with the number of decimal places.

B: Change one dimension to look like another

To make one dimesion look like another, select the dimension to be changed, click the Painter icon, and then select a dimension that already has the dual dimension properties. (the Painter icon looks like a blue paint brush - it's the last icon in the Graphic Properties toolbar)

I figured out how to run a session as administrator and unlock the standards. What I cannot figure out is what to change.......I am usually good at this kind of stuff.

I'm not an administrator, so I'm only telling you what I've heard from others:

There are thousands of options for definining a CATIA drawing standard. I'm told there is a book that describes all of these options in the CATIA online documentation.

Good Luck!
