How to remove external references from part file?

I've got a solidworks part file which was used in some assembly part by
someone. I need to remove the external references from it - how do I do it? Thanks in advance for your valuable suggestions.

It depends

It depends on what type of references you are talking about. If from within sketches, simply edit the sketch, look at all references, and then delete the ones with -> behind them.

If planes, then redefine the plane based on geometric within the part file.

These two examples will cover 90% of what you will run into. Good luck

Find out which sketches that have external references. Edit them and delete the external relations from the sketch.

In the Features using external references which are marked with "->". Go through each feature and replace with local references. If the reference is an external plane, create a new one in the model. In sketches, you can isolate all external references in the constraint manager and delete them. Then proceed to replace new references.

  1. see sketch relations and delet any "on edge" reletions in your part sketch then right click and select "Fully define sketch" to redining it,
  2. right click in the sketch name that has " > " icon and select Break external refrences.
  3. go to file menu and select Pack & Go then go to "List refrences" and select the other places on your hard drive then let the SW find all of assembly refrences and copy a stand alone assembly for you.
  4. Thank you:)
