export for Swift 3D from Inventor (workflow)

I'm trying to get a clients Inventor file to Swift 3D.

Inventor >> DXF >> Swift 3d
or
Inventor >> 3DS >> Swift 3d

Swift only accepts dxf and 3ds files, so I need to ask for the proper export options. I know there needs to be certain boxes checked and unchecked. Just a wire mesh? Seperate objects? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello Hallvalla,

The proper way is to test all of the settings because someone may tell you to use certain settings and they may not be the best for your situation (geometry in the file, Swift 3D settings, etc).

So the best way is to ask your client to work with you to perform a short interoperability test with you. They will appreciate your desire to maximize the quality of data flow with them.

So ask them to create an export file (dxf or 3ds) with each of the possible settings and to make a note of the settings and the file name that they created. When you receive those file, import each one and see which one performs best for your setup. That way you can select the for you and then tell your client what settings to use in the future.

We have many TechBit tips for interoperability testing with IGES files. The same procedure can be used with any type of neutral data file. We also have any data exchange tips in general. here are the category links to look at:
