Live render is not working here for geforce 580.

I have latest drivers
Side note: the pc is running as a satellite on network
Do I need a quadro for gpu rendering? or what needs to be done to get live render working with geforce 580?
Also how do I save a live render scene, propagating the file to the database does not seem to save render background or any of the render settings. thanks!
