Problems with Lighting Falloff & Reflections

I'm having a few problems creating a pattern which is being created by some lights, I have taken a picture of. Due to the shape/intensity of the light, it creates a star shape pattern on the ceiling. I'm not using any fancy GI or Final Gather etc, just standard lights within 3ds max. I'm also having problems creating the reflections from the lights on to the walls, If I create a raytrace material it will not give the same effect, "which is occurring within the picture", i.e. nice blown out light.

You can always use a projector light. Place a spotlight below your first light, pointing up towards the ceiling. Then paint the pattern you want to see on the ceiling, and project it.
