profile along a line

i am trying to produce a shaped profile along a pre-determined known path. it keeps throwing up errors about closed paths. this is 1 of about 20 profiles needed on the final plate. any advice appreciated. using SW2007, please see jpeg attachment.

The path should not be in form of construction geometry. Edit the path and convert it to a continuous line.
