In Wildfire 3 you go to the View tab then click on the color and appearance, pick a color and then pick on the advanced tab and you will find the Transparent adjuster.

In View menu>>Display Settings>>Model Display in "Shade Tab" check transparency. Then a transparent color must be created and set . Go to View menu and Model setup, color and appearance, add a new color, then in advanced tab there would be a slider for opaque to clear.
