Tutorial sites on how to create aircrafts

Hi. I am currently studying CATIA by myself in the office and I have came up with this question. - Does anybody know if there is any good tutorial website about how to create aircrafts? I just thought it might be cool if I made an aircraft or something before I start my work with Catia V5.

I have finished my 3-month course on Catia V5 this March and I passed the exams for part design and assembly design specialist. I have also learned the basics of GSD. But I have no experience to work with Catia so far. I am a very beginner. I would apreciate if there was anything I can learn that sort of thing.

Thank you in advance,

Bert Tsunezawa

Aircraft are made from parts...

If you can design parts, then you can design an aircraft. It might take you a while through...aircraft are made from many parts. It could be easier if you just want a visual representation of an airplane to create a wire-frame fuselage and wings or solid model it.

Wireframe gives u more easier

Yes, I agreed with Peeto999's statement. But I suggest u to learn first the "Wireframe and Surface" design workbench, so u can build the surface and references first before u go to inside detail part.

You should first make MDF model. It is the outer surface of plane.
After that you should creat axis system of plane.

And you may design structures and systems of plane.

Peeto999, ferdo, ruli02pn and linde,

Thank you for all of yours great advice! I'm so glad to have those posts, so I can be more motivated until I will start working with Catia.

Hi Bert,

I am also interested in airplane design and have been using Catia, Solidworks and Rhino 3d. If by airplane design, you mean designing the fuselage and therefore "curvey" and smooth shapes, you could also do some google searches on car body design and boat design. The fuselage design process is similar - you start with 3-views - the top, side and front and develop the main curves and cross sections which are then used to loft the fuselage. The YouTube videos mentioned in a previous reply to your message are how to design/create a P-51 Mustang using Catia - a great series of videos.

Good luck,
Mike

Do a search on youtube.com for Catia P-51 Mustang. There is a guy with a bunch of videos on surfacing and he surfaces a whole plane with 3 2d drawings. I was impressed!

I found it because I'm modeling a plane I plan to build from a set of plans.

Also, if you're interested, pick up a balsa model and model all the parts... then assemble it.... A guy I knew in college did that and then scaled up the parts and built it out of aluminum. It was pretty cool.
